Trump’s First Month Proves the Election Was Not About White Economic Angst

The popular myth that November’s election was about the economy continues to spread like an uncontrolled wildfire despite mountains of evidence to the contrary. While spineless, confused liberals fret over finding common ground with Trump supporters, they continue to enable the spread of hatred by refusing to acknowledge the real problem.

Meanwhile Bannon and his minions in the White House continue to prove that the election had little — if anything — to do with economics. A month into his presidency, and Bannon has only focused on divisive and hateful social issues. Even agenda items ostensibly related to the economy — such as repealing Obamacare, which would be an economic nightmare — have fallen to the wayside. Not being pursued, and not even currently being discussed. Why bother fixing real problems when you haven’t finished purifying America by banning Muslims, increasing deportations, and rescinding safeguards for transgender people?

It’s as though Bannon and his puppet the president are set on making America a reality TV show. How long can they keep explicitly saying and doing things that are biased and hateful while hiding behind a transparent cover of an economic mandate? While the rational world watches, our “leaders” make a mockery of our constitution and basic human rights. And yet we (read: white Americans) are stumbling all over ourselves to make the election and the administration about something entirely different from what it is showing and telling us it is.

For inexplicable reasons many people thought Trump didn’t mean what he said during the campaign. They dismissed his terrifying words and mannerisms, expecting that he would somehow be different if elected, as though there were anything other than faith to support such a belief. Of course Trump, or rather Bannon, has done exactly what he said he would. And his supporters, whose economic plight has not been addressed in the slightest — unless taking away their health insurance counts — stay enamored as he chips away at fundamental human rights and basic American freedoms.
